In memory of Heather Cannon
Written by Jennifer Bazeley, ER&L Program Co-Chair
Heather Marie Cannon, formerly the Systems and E-Resources Librarian at Adler University in Chicago, passed away on December 1, 2024, after her battle with leukemia, which relapsed last year. Heather was born in Chicago, IL, and earned her Masters Degree in Library Sciences at Dominican University, which is where I met her. She and I were two of a handful of students who were working in libraries around the Chicago area while taking library school classes at night. Our mutual interest in cataloging and e-resources meant we took many of the same courses and became friends while commiserating over cataloging homework.
Heather was smart, and funny, and tough – I admired her from our very first conversations. During her career in Chicago, she worked as a Medical Librarian and later as a Systems and E-Resources Librarian. She was an active member of NASIG and a regular attendee of the NASIG and ER&L conferences. Whenever our ER&L conference attendance overlapped, we would meet for Tex-Mex at Trudy’s in Austin and catch up. Our get-togethers are some of my fondest conference memories, and I miss her presence very much.
