Do you make up the entirety of your library’s e-resource team, or are you part of a large team with various specialties? Either way, documentation, and training are important to ensure that e-resource workflows are smooth and consistent.
This workshop will be structured as 5 mini-sessions, where the facilitators will guide participants through creating a documentation plan, beginning to document their work, and how to translate that documentation into training. We will discuss different types of documentation, including procedures, project documentation, troubleshooting guides, and glossaries. When we discuss training, we will talk about the purposes of training and how that can affect delivery, training methods, and the different challenges and strengths of training virtually versus in-person (and vice versa).
Sessions will address documentation issues such as interoperability with technology integrations (I.e. JIRA), the permanence of private vs. personal saved locations, and how to break down complex topics into understandable terms. Sessions will also address training best practices, such as structure, clarity, back-ups, and assistance while presenting methods specifically for e-resource workflows training.
Each session will be accompanied by office hours, where we will encourage participants to share their own planning and documentation goals or projects. If you’ve ever had challenges setting aside time to document workflows, this workshop is a great opportunity to stay accountable by having a schedule and support!
Following the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Execute successful training sessions for colleagues by using appropriate documentation as a foundation.
- Organize documentation on workflows, training, or projects into relevant storage areas for easy retrieval and access.
- Develop documentation for ERM workflows to ensure consistent and organized collaboration with colleagues.
